What is the Gentle Max Pro Plus laser?
The Gentle Max Pro Plus laser is a state-of-the-art laser system used for hair removal and various skin treatments. It combines two laser technologies: the Alexandrite laser and the Nd:YAG laser, allowing for effective and safe hair removal on a wide range of skin types.
How does laser hair removal work?
Laser hair removal works by targeting the melanin (pigment) in the hair follicles. The laser emits a concentrated beam of light that is absorbed by the melanin, which then converts the light energy into heat. This heat destroys the hair follicle, inhibiting future hair growth.
Is laser hair removal safe?
Yes, laser hair removal is generally safe when performed by a trained and experienced professional using appropriate equipment. The Gentle Max Pro Plus laser is FDA-approved for hair removal and has built-in safety features to protect the skin during treatment.
Does laser hair removal hurt?
Laser hair removal can cause some discomfort, but it is often described as a sensation similar to a rubber band snapping against the skin. The Gentle Max Pro Plus laser has a built-in cooling mechanism to minimize discomfort during treatment.
How many laser hair removal sessions are needed?
The number of sessions required varies depending on various factors, including the treatment area, hair color, and thickness. On average, most people need between 6 to 8 sessions spaced several weeks apart to achieve optimal results. Some individuals may require additional sessions for long-term hair reduction.
Is laser hair removal permanent?
Laser hair removal can provide long-term hair reduction, but it is not guaranteed to permanently eliminate all hair. The treatment can significantly reduce hair growth, resulting in smoother skin for an extended period. Maintenance sessions may be needed in the future to address any new hair growth.
Why are multiple treatments necessary for laser hair removal?
Laser hair removal requires multiple treatments for several reasons:

Hair growth cycles: Hair goes through different growth cycles, including active growth (anagen), resting (telogen), and shedding (catagen) phases. Laser hair removal is most effective during the active growth phase when the hair follicles contain the most pigment. Since not all hairs are in the active growth phase simultaneously, multiple treatments are needed to target the hair follicles during their active phase.

Hair follicle depth and thickness: The depth and thickness of hair follicles can vary, even within the same treatment area. Laser energy is most effective when it reaches the hair follicle's base, where the hair bulb and pigment are located. Multiple treatments help ensure that all hair follicles are targeted at different depths and thicknesses, maximizing the chances of long-term hair reduction.

Different hair growth patterns: Hair growth patterns can vary among individuals. Some people may have hair that grows slower or faster, and others may have hair that is more resistant to laser treatment. Multiple sessions allow the technician to adjust the treatment parameters and target hair at different stages of growth and varying resistances.

Hair follicle dormancy: Hair follicles can go into a dormant state temporarily, where they do not produce hair. These dormant follicles can become active again after some time, resulting in new hair growth. By undergoing multiple treatments, you can target these previously dormant follicles when they become active again.
What areas of the body can be treated with the Gentle Max Pro Plus laser?
The Gentle Max Pro Plus laser can effectively treat various areas of the body, including the face, legs, underarms, bikini line +, chest, back, and arms. It is versatile and can safely be used on different skin types.
Are there any side effects of laser hair removal?
Temporary side effects of laser hair removal may include redness, mild swelling, and a sensation similar to a sunburn. These effects usually subside within a few hours to a couple of days. It is important to follow post-treatment care instructions provided by your technician.
Is there any downtime after laser hair removal?

There is typically no significant downtime after laser hair removal. You can resume your regular activities immediately after the treatment. However, it's important to avoid sun exposure and use sunscreen on treated areas to protect the skin.

Who is a suitable candidate for laser hair removal with the Gentle Max Pro Plus laser?
The Gentle Max Pro Plus laser is suitable for individuals with various skin types and tones. However, it may not be as effective on very light, gray, or red hair, as these hair colors have less melanin to absorb the laser energy. It's best to consult with us to determine if laser hair removal is right for you.
What if I recently had waxing or sugaring?

In order for laser hair removal to be effective, there needs to be hair in the follicles for the laser to target. After waxing or sugaring, the hair is typically removed from the root, and it takes time for the hair to regrow to a length suitable for laser treatment. Waiting for hair regrowth is essential for the laser to effectively target the hair follicles.

Approximately 4-6 weeks: In most cases, it is recommended to wait about 4-6 weeks after waxing or sugaring before undergoing laser hair removal. This allows enough time for the hair to grow back to the necessary length for effective treatment.

What should I do before my laser hair removal session?

Before your laser hair removal session, follow these guidelines:

Shave the treatment area: You should shave the area to be treated a day or two before your session. This ensures that the laser targets the hair follicles and not the hair above the skin's surface.

Avoid sun exposure: Minimize sun exposure and avoid tanning beds for at least two weeks before your treatment. A tan can increase the risk of side effects like blistering or discoloration.

Avoid certain hair removal methods: Avoid plucking, waxing, or using depilatory creams on the treatment area for at least four weeks prior to your session. These methods remove the hair follicles, which need to be intact for the laser to effectively target them.

Stay away from irritants: Avoid using any products that may irritate your skin, such as harsh scrubs or chemical peels, in the treatment area for a few days before your session.

If you are taking any medications or have any medical conditions, inform your laser hair removal technician. Certain medications can make your skin more sensitive to the laser or increase the risk of complications.

RECENTLY TANNED SKIN CANNOT BE TREATED! If treated within 2 weeks of active (natural sunlight or tanning booth) tanning, you may develop hypopigmentation (white spots) after treatment and this may not clear for 2-3 months or more.

The use of self-tanning skin products must be discontinued one week before treatment. Any residual self-tanner should be removed prior to treatment.

How should I care for my skin after laser hair removal?

Avoid sun exposure: Protect the treated area from direct sun exposure for at least a week after the treatment. Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) and cover the area with clothing or a hat when going outdoors.

Avoid heat and friction: Avoid hot baths, saunas, and activities that cause excessive sweating for a couple of days post-treatment. Also, avoid using exfoliating scrubs or abrasive skincare products on the treated area for a week or two.

Moisturize: Keep the treated area moisturized with a gentle, non-irritating moisturizer to help soothe the skin and prevent dryness.

Avoid irritants: Refrain from using products that may irritate your skin, such as perfumes, fragrances, and harsh chemicals, in the treated area for a few days.

Avoid picking or scratching the treated skin. Do not use any other hair removal treatment products or similar treatments (waxing, electrolysis or tweezing) that will disturb the hair follicle in the treatment area for 6 weeks after the laser treatment is performed. Shaving only should be done between treatments.

Several days to weeks after the treatment, shedding of the treated hair may occur and this appears as new hair growth. This is NOT new hair growth. You can clean and remove the hair by washing or wiping the area with a wet cloth or Loofah sponge.
After the axilla (underarm) is treated, you may wish to use a powder instead of a deodorant for 24 hours after the treatment to reduce skin irritation.

There are no restrictions on bathing except to treat the skin gently, as if you had sunburn, for the first 24 hours.

Who should not get laser hair removal?

Here are some factors that may prevent someone from getting laser hair removal:

Pregnancy: Laser hair removal is generally not recommended during pregnancy. Although there is no conclusive evidence of harmful effects, the potential risks to the fetus are not well-studied. It's best to postpone treatment until after pregnancy.

Active infections or skin conditions: If you have an active skin infection, such as herpes or a bacterial infection, or a skin condition like eczema or dermatitis in the treatment area, it's advisable to delay laser hair removal until the condition has resolved. Treating over an infected or irritated area can further aggravate the condition.

Photosensitivity or light sensitivity: If you have a condition that makes your skin highly sensitive to light or have a known sensitivity to the laser's specific wavelength, you may not be a suitable candidate for laser hair removal. It's important to discuss your condition with a qualified professional to determine if the treatment can be safely administered.

Recent sunburn or tanned skin: Laser hair removal should not be performed on sunburned or recently tanned skin. Sunburned skin is already damaged and sensitive, and laser treatment may cause further irritation and complications. It's recommended to wait until the sunburn has fully healed or the tan has faded before undergoing treatment.

Certain medications and medical conditions: Some medications can increase photosensitivity, making your skin more susceptible to adverse effects from laser treatment. Additionally, certain medical conditions, such as a history of keloid scarring or active cancer, may require special considerations or contraindicate laser hair removal. It's essential to disclose all your medical history and medications to the treatment provider for a thorough assessment before proceeding with laser hair removal.

It's crucial to consult with us so we can evaluate your individual circumstances and provide personalized advice regarding whether laser hair removal is appropriate for you. We will consider factors such as your skin type, medical history, and any potential contraindications to ensure your safety and optimize treatment results.

Do you offer patch testing?

IVONNE is pleased to offer patch testing to its clients upon request.

Patch testing could help minimize the possibility of any adverse reaction to a treatment. It is best to request a patch test if:

  • You are receiving a new treatment for the first time;
  • You are receiving treatment on a new area of the body; or
  • The laser device has undergone service, maintenance, or replacement since your last treatment.
  • The equipment in your treatment experiences a replacement, maintenance, or service, or the manufacturer or supplier’s training undertaken by the laser technician performing the treatment specifically instructs that a skin patch test is required.

Patch testing should be requested BEFORE committing to scheduling a treatment appointment.
